What I Do

Four things. Done right.

I install asphalt-shingle roofs on residential homes. I do repairs. I do free inspections on weekdays. And I install seamless aluminum gutters when they come with a re-roof. That's the entire service list — four things, in plain English, with the prices written down.

I don't do flat roofs, I don't do standing-seam metal roofs, and I don't do commercial. The metal-roof guys and the commercial guys in Asheville are good. If you need them I'll tell you who to call.

Asphalt Shingle Replacement

Full tear-off and re-roof. We pull off every layer of the old roof down to the decking, replace any rotted decking we find, lay GAF FeltBuster synthetic underlayment, install ice-and-water shield in the valleys and along the eaves, and run new architectural shingles to a six-nail pattern. A standard 1,800sqft single-story ranch is one to two working days. A 2,400sqft two-story is two to three days.

The quote includes labor, materials, the dumpster, the permit, and the cleanup — magnetic-sweep the yard for stray nails before we leave. You will have one number on one page, and that number doesn't change unless we open the roof and find decking damage that wasn't visible from below. If that happens I'll show you the damage in person before we replace it, and you'll see the additional cost on a written supplement before we proceed.

Typical 1,800sqft ranch · $8,400 – $11,200
Typical 2,400sqft two-story · $12,800 – $16,800

Roof Repair

Most calls I get are repair calls — a single nail-pop after a hard rain, a cracked shingle the wind lifted off, a piece of flashing the previous roofer didn't seal right. We do those same week, often same day. A single-shingle repair is $80 to $180. A multi-shingle section repair or a flashing rebuild is $380 to $1,400.

If you have a leak in your ceiling right now, call. I'll come look at it. I'm not going to try to sell you a roof you don't need — I've fixed roofs that had eight more good years on them, and I've told customers their roof was at end-of-life when they were hoping for a patch. I tell you straight.

Roof Inspection & Estimate

Free on weekdays. I'll come out, walk the roof, check the flashing at the chimney and the valleys, look at the decking from the attic, and hand you a written quote on a single sheet of paper. Forty-five minutes, give or take.

If your roof has another five or eight or twelve good years on it, I will tell you that and I will leave. I'm not going to walk you through a slideshow about why you need to replace it now. The inspection is genuinely free — there's no upsell to a paid "comprehensive inspection" and there's no manufactured urgency.

Free · weekdays · 45 minutes

Gutter Replacement

Seamless 5-inch and 6-inch aluminum gutters with hidden-hanger installation, downspouts run to your foundation drainage. We do gutter replacement as part of most re-roofs, and as a standalone for homes where the roof is fine but the gutters are pulling away.

A typical 1,800sqft ranch with all-around gutters and four downspouts is $1,400 to $2,200. A 2,400sqft two-story is $2,200 to $3,200. We don't install gutter guards as an add-on — if you want them, get them from the gutter-guard companies that warranty their product. I won't warranty something I didn't build.

Typical 1,800sqft ranch · $1,400 – $2,200
Typical 2,400sqft two-story · $2,200 – $3,200

A Note on Insurance

About insurance claims.

I do roughly half a dozen insurance jobs a year, mostly after summer hail comes through Madison County. I'll meet your adjuster on the roof, document the damage with him, and submit a supplemental if the scope he writes is short. I do this for customers because most homeowners don't have the time or the leverage to argue with State Farm or USAA on their own.

I'm not a storm-chasing operation and I'm not equipped to be one. If your situation is complicated — you've already filed a claim, you've talked to three contractors, you're being denied, your adjuster wants to total the roof and your insurer won't approve it — I'll refer you to a friend who handles those exclusively. Honesty about scope is worth more than a job I can't do right.

What a roof actually costs.

The price of a new roof depends on a handful of things: square footage, pitch, how many layers we have to tear off, the condition of the decking, what kind of shingle you pick, and how accessible the roof is from the driveway. The numbers below are 2026 dollars, Western NC market, and they include labor, materials, tear-off, the dumpster, the permit, and cleanup.

Insurance jobs are billed direct to your scope-of-work at adjuster-approved pricing — those numbers can differ from the figures below. The deposit on every job is 50%, due on the start day. The balance is due on completion.

Asphalt shingle replacement (architectural, 30-yr)$5.00 – $6.40 / sqft installed
Asphalt shingle replacement (impact-resistant, 50-yr)$6.50 – $8.00 / sqft installed

A few honest questions.

Do you carry insurance?

Yes. We carry $2M in general liability and full workers' comp on all four crew members. I'll send you certificates of insurance with the quote, addressed to you by name, before we set a start date. If a contractor won't put insurance certificates in your hand before they start, hire someone else.

How long does a typical roof take?

A standard 1,800–2,200 sqft single-story ranch is one to two working days from tear-off to cleanup. A 2,400–3,000 sqft two-story is two to three days. Steep-pitch, complex roofs with multiple valleys can run four days. We work 7am to 4pm and we don't leave a tarp on a roof overnight unless weather forces it.

Do you do metal or flat roofs?

No. We install asphalt-shingle on residential homes only. If you want a standing-seam metal roof, call Mike at Blue Ridge Metal Roofing in Marshall — I'll text you his number. For flat roofs and commercial, call Asheville Commercial Roofing. They do good work and they're not me.

Will you meet my insurance adjuster?

Yes, when the timing works. I'll meet the adjuster on the roof, walk the damage with him, and submit a supplemental if the scope of work he writes is short. I do about half a dozen insurance jobs a year — mostly summer hail in Madison County. If your claim is complicated and you've already worked with three contractors, I may refer you to a full-time storm-restoration friend instead of taking it on myself.

Do you finance, or take credit cards?

We don't carry our own financing. Most customers pay 50% deposit on the start day and the balance on completion, by check or bank transfer. We take credit cards for repairs under $1,000 (with a 3% processing surcharge — same as everywhere else) but not for full replacements. If you need financing, your bank or credit union will usually beat any contractor-financing rate; I'd rather you get the better loan from them than the higher rate from a contractor finance partner.
